I delighted in viewing the first DC very Hero girls original animated movie, Hero of the Year, so I’m glad to hear another one will be coming. This franchise, aimed at and starring young women, is a breath of fresh air, and I’m glad to see heroes like wonder Woman, Batgirl, Supergirl, and numerous others working together in the “hero school” setting.
That very Hero High environment allows for a bunch of cameos and supporting characters, which are fun. Plus, DC very Hero girls allows kids interested in media-focused characters something with those characters — including Harley Quinn and Katana — that’s suitable for their age group.
DC very Hero Girls: Intergalactic games will be available on DVD (list price $19.99) on may 23, with an earlier digital release on may 9. Here’s the trailer and plot description:
Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Bumblebee, and Katana square off against Korugar Academy in the Intergalactic Games, but trouble is in the air as Lena Luthor takes advantage of the gathering of the Supers to enact her villainous plan. It’s up to the DC very Hero girls to fight the forces of evil and safeguard their school. With wonder Woman’s strength, Supergirl’s speed, Batgirl’s tactical knowledge, Poison Ivy’s ability to make things grow, Harley Quinn’s energy, Bumblebee’s ability to shrink, and Katana’s fearless personality… anything is possible.
What that summary doesn’t tell you is that the very Hero High team will be facing off against Jack Kirby’s female Furies, part of his new Gods creation. I never expected to see Lashina in this movie! The DVD will also include, as a special feature, the music video for the song “That’s My Girl” by girl group fifth Harmony. Both the DVD and the digital release include these seven animated shorts.
