Golion
by Josh Crawley
This week we’re starting from the back of Previews; I’m so sneaky! Remember, use the handy, dandy links provided for pertinent information!
Golion: The complete Collection DVD
This is a set I’ve been waiting for; Voltron’s twin brother!
GaoGaiGar
GaoGaiGar season 1 DVD
Unlike Golion, I know pretty much nothing about GaoGaiGar except that there are some pretty awesome mech designs; this set will help me remedy that. (Anyone that tells me to “google” or “wiki” it has to take a time-out).
cereal:geek
cereal:geek magazine #4
After pimping this last month, did you really think I wouldn’t this month?
Art in Time
Art in Time: unknown Comic Adventures 1940-1980 hardcover
I have no clue what material is in here, but it’s a huge hardcover full of comics; not sure why it’s in the book section.
Apple
Apple volume 4
Admittedly, I only own Apple volume 1 (conveniently listed again this month), but that’s because I have yet to have a chance to read it. I have flipped through it, though, and it’s gorgeous.
Spell Checkers
Spell Checkers volume 1
Honestly, when I first read the description for this, my first thought was “Why are we supposed to care about some self-centered mean girls getting their due?” It’s written by Jamie S. Rich, though, so I’m sure it isn’t as cut and dry as that. added bonus; some artwork by Joelle Jones!
Kids Komics
Golden Collection of Klassic Krazy Kool kids Komics
I really do appreciate great reprint collections like this, but they also have an inherent flaw: parents don’t want to spend that much on a book for kids. I don’t understand why more material like this isn’t reproduced in less expensive formats.
Anne Frank
Anne Frank: The Anne Frank house Authorized biography softcover
As the Diary of Anne Frank was possibly my first (and an early) experience with the horrors of world war 2, I’m interested to see what the creative team of 9/11 report and After 9/11 does with this material.
Hack/Slash
Hack/Slash #34 cover B Chrissie Zullo
Chrissie Zullo’s been doing those great Cinderella: From Fabletown with love covers.
Fathom
Fathom: Blue Descent #1 Finch cover
Normally I’d wait to point this out until it was in a trade paperback, but we’ve gone too long without new Aspen material. That, and I really like this cover. Not that I don’t like the Scott Clark cover; it’s swell, too!
Black Coat
Black Coat: …Or give Me Death! trade paperback
Looking for some great pulp adventure? look no further! Francesco Francavilla worked on this before he went on to draw the Matt Wagner Zorro! also be sure to check out his work on the upcoming Garrison #1 from WildStorm!
Witchblade
Witchblade #137
Ron Marz brings the Necromancer into the fold this issue. Not sure who she is? sounds like a great opportinuty to check out the Necromancer softcover, featuring some great Francis Manapul artwork! Not sure who Witchblade is? Why not check out image Firsts: Witchblade #1, currently $.80!
Magdalena
Magdalena #1
Not sure who Magdalena is? thanks to Marz, she’s had a resurgence in the top Cow universe, and now she gets a new ongiong series! Sadly, I can’t find our listing for the Magdalena volume 1 softcover, but Darkness volume 3 and Magdalena Blood Divine contain her early major appearances. For a more recent appearance, check out the first born softcover, or the Witchblade volume 5 softcover!
Shuddertown
Shuddertown #2
Cherry’s Gentlemen Club; I rest my case. (Okay, I’m also looking forward to a collection of author Nick Spencer’s Forgetless).
Chew
Chew volume 2: international flavor softcover
After reading the first issue, I understood why this book was selling so well; now you can too! If you already know how great this book is, just consider this a reminder!
Cowboy Ninja Viking
Cowboy Ninja Viking trade paperback
While I wasn’t so happy with the reproduction of the artwork in the first issue, I did enjoy the first issue. You may recall Riley Rossmo’s artwork (in handy image Firsts format) from proof #1!
Turf
Turf #1
Letters by John Workman! (I really wish solicitation information mentioned that kind of stuff). Tommy Lee Edwards is pretty great, too.
Demo
Demo volume 2 #3
Becky Cloonan draws pretty. Also, this is one of few titles I buy as single issues still.
DV8
DV8: Gods & Monsters #1
DV8 – the red-headed stepsons to Gen13 – return in this gorgeous-looking mini-series drawn by Rebekah Issacs! For a great primer, check out the DV8: neighborhood threat softcover by Warren Ellis and Humberto Ramos! We also have some back issues, in case you’ve been meaning to fill in some gaps in your collection.
Viking Prince
Viking prince by Joe Kubert hardcover
It’s vikings by Joe Kubert. Why did this book take so long?!
Batwoman
Batwoman: Elegy Deluxe edition hardcover
I haven’t read this yet, but this is the format I’d buy it in!
The Spirit
The Spirit #1
Mark Schultz? Moritat? You’re only going wrong if you don’t buy this first Wave book!
Blackest Night
Blackest night Director’s Cut
I’m a super-geek for behind-the-scenes material like this.
Justice league of America
Justice league of America #44
Jesse Quick! Not liberty Belle. That’s all that caught my eye. Continue…
Art of Blade of the Immortal
Art of Blade of the Immortal
I’ve only read the first three books in the series, but this art book can easily stand on it’s own. If I had a coffee table, this would be on it next to my Usagi Yojimbo art book.
